Farm and Ranch Water Infrastructure Program (FRWIP)

The Farm and Ranch Water Infrastructure Program (FRWIP) provides financial assistance to agriculture producers for projects that increase water security and drought resilience. The program supports projects that enable agricultural producers to increase their water supply, improve water use efficiency, or develop new water sources. Well decommissioning is one of the eligible project types under FRWIP. ### Program Objectives * Increase water security for agricultural operations. * Enhance drought resilience in the agricultural sector. * Promote sustainable water management practices. * Support the long-term viability of Saskatchewan's agricultural industry. ### Eligible Applicants * Agriculture producers who own or lease agricultural land in Saskatchewan. * Applicants must be in good standing with the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC). * Applicants must have a valid Saskatchewan Premises Identification (PID) number. ### Eligible Projects * Projects that increase water supply, improve water use efficiency, or develop new water sources. * Well decommissioning projects that meet or exceed the requirements outlined in the Oil and Gas Environmental Management Guidelines. This includes: * Properly plugging and sealing abandoned or unused wells to prevent groundwater contamination. * Removing all surface equipment and infrastructure associated with the well. * Restoring the well site to its original condition. * Projects must be technically and economically feasible. * Projects must comply with all applicable environmental regulations and best management practices.
